Dan Pitt, Executive Director of the Open Networking Foundation (ONF), will give an overview of OpenFlow-based SDN and the contribution of ONF and its members to this emerging industry.

Speaker Bios:


Dan Pitt, Ph.D., Executive Director, Open Networking Foundation

Dan Pitt is Executive Director of the Open Networking Foundation, starting on its public launch in March 2011. Dan spent twenty years developing networking architecture, technology, standards, and products at IBM Networking Systems in North Carolina, IBM Research Zurich in Switzerland, Hewlett Packard Labs in Palo Alto, and finally at Bay Networks and Nortel Networks in Santa Clara, Cal., where he was vice president of the Bay Architecture Lab and the Enterprise Solutions Technology Center. From 2002-2007 he served as dean of the school of engineering at Santa Clara University and holder of the Sobrato Chair in Engineering. From 2007-2011 he advised and served in executive operational roles in startup companies in the U.S., Canada, and Australia, most recently as an executive in residence at the Plug and Play Tech Center in Sunnyvale, Cal. Dan received a B.S. in mathematics (magna cum laude) from Duke University, and an M.S. and Ph.D. in computer science from the University of Illinois. He taught as an adjunct professor at Duke University and the University of North Carolina for ten years and has fifty publications and one patent to his credit.

Isabelle Guis, VP, Outbound Marketing, Big Switch Networks

Isabelle Guis is responsible for outbound marketing at Big Switch Networks and the Chair of the Market Education Committee for the Open Networking Foundation (ONF). She has extensive global experience spanning several networking companies where she held a variety of positions from R&D to product management and marketing for both enterprise and service provider market segments. Prior to joining Big Switch Networks, she was the General Manager of Avaya's Small and Medium Enterprise Communications Business Unit with worldwide responsibilities for product design, development, marketing and indirect sales. At Cisco, she was instrumental in the post-acquisition integration of the WLAN start-up Airespace with Cisco Go-To-Market and also led several Mobile Vertical Solutions from design and testing to launch. She holds a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Supelec in France and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Matthew Palmer, Partner, Wiretap Ventures; Co-Editor,

Matt has 20+ years of software-defined networking (SDN), cloud computing, SaaS, & computer networking experience. He is currently a Partner at Wiretap Ventures, LLC a strategy and management consulting firm focused on enabling technology companies to exploit the market disruption cause by virtualization, mobility, and cloud computing. Matt is also currently Co-Editor of The Independent Community for Network Virtualization. Matt was most recently co-founder and CEO at Pareto Networks which was acquired by Aerohive Networks. At Pareto, Matt successfully incubated and launched the company, being recognized as Most Innovative Cloud Computing Provider at UP-START 2010 and Hot Emerging Vendor by CRN Magazine. Matt received his bachelor of science in Business Management from Indiana University and has 7 issued and 6 pending patents in network virtualization, security and cloud computing.

Rakesh Saha, Director, Product Management, IBM Systems and Technology Group

Rakesh Saha is Director of Product Management for System Networking in the Systems & Technology Group at IBM. Rakesh leads product management including strategy and roadmap of advanced networking technologies for IBM System Networking, where he is leading SDN (Software Defined Networking), including IBM's OpenFlow product offerings, as well as Network Virtualization, Cloud Networking and Data Center Convergence products. He has over 15 years of experience in product management, research, design and development of networks and systems. At BLADE Network Technologies (BNT), which was acquired by IBM in 2010, Rakesh served as lead architect and R&D manager for BLADE virtualization and convergence portfolio, delivering industry firsts including the first virtualization-aware switch, the first FCoE converged networking solution, and the first blade server solution integrating IBM Virtual Fabric. Prior to IBM Rakesh held various senior product management, technical and management roles at BNT and Hewlett-Packard. Rakesh has patents awarded and pending in system networking and virtualization.

Steve Brar, HP Networking, Hewlett-Packard Company

Steve Brar is a global product marketing manager for HP Networking. In this role, he is responsible for product marketing of the company's enterprise campus core and data center core switching products. During his time with HP Networking, Brar has held both product marketing and product management roles. Prior to joining HP, he served as a systems engineer for a wireless internet service provider. Steve has more than 11 years of experience in the networking industry. Steve holds a bachelor's degree in computer science and engineering from the University of California at Davis.
